Towards the Palitana temples

During this trip, we heard about the Jain religious group for the first time and have already seen some magnificent temples. Jainism is known for its ideal of not harming living beings. Jainas eat in such a way that no animals have to suffer or die and plants are only harmed to the extent that is unavoidable.

The Palitana temples are among the most important sacred sites. There are hundreds of shrines and larger temples on a high hill with around 3500 steps leading up to them. The temples themselves are well maintained and are constantly being renovated or added to. We didn't do the whole route ourselves as we had to take it easy and no water is allowed on the whole route (there are entry controls). The possibility of being carried up by 2-4 porters is out of the question for us. We wouldn't be comfortable with it. What we saw was impressive, a special atmosphere. And we didn't meet any other western tourists during the whole visit.
