The grand Fairburn Tower….

sixteenth century, but beautifully restored after years of work. Location for one of the seventeenth century Brahan Seer’s prophecies about the MacKenzie family. He predicted the demise of the MacKenzie estates and said a cow would give birth to a calf in the top of the tower. In the nineteenth century, the farmer stored fodder in the higher stories and left a trail up the stairs. A cow followed the food , got stuck and gave birth to her calf up there. Trains brought sight seers from Inverness.
Today was special. On the walk in a flock of newly arrived Chiffchaffs called from so many Pine trees for half a mile. Never heard so many at once! Then the Crossbill posed while collecting mud for her nest! The sun shone and the air was full of bird song, Great Tits, Blackbirds, Thrushes, Wrens, Yellow Ammers, Woodpeckers, Robins and the Chiffchaffs! Wonderful!
