The Long View

We joined a group this morning to hike a section of the nearby Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument. It’s not quite open to the public yet, and these trips are organized to introduce people to the area. A very articulate ranger was our main guide on the property, and we learned about local history, biology, geology, and the ongoing stewardship of the land. What I retained is the sheer joy of knowing that I walked nearly five miles, at least half of it uphill! I was definitely the last one in the parade, but I did it and it was a beautiful place, and I’m happy we signed up. Lots of wildflowers, varying terrain, fine weather. A shout-out to public land management and the dedicated folks who make it possible for us all to enjoy such special places!
