Biophilia in The Mwldan
Cardigan's riverside backstreet in former times served the harbour with workshops and warehouses but is a mixture now of the ramshackle and the upwardly mobile where artycrafty studio spaces rub shoulders with some very down-at-heel living quarters.
A house sparrow chirping piercingly from the eves drew my eyes upwards but at street level a curious construction on a window sill caught our attention: a small plastic shelf unit loaded with bird seed was attached to the pane. No wonder the sparrow was jubilant.
Below the seed trays a patch of grass had sprouted where overflowing grain had germinated and, on closer examination, the miniature savannah was populated by a flock? a herd? a gaggle? of tiny plastic dinosaurs.*
We didn't attempt to investigate further as there was evidently someone in bed within but you have to marvel at the ingenuity of those who (perhaps) don't have any other options for bird watching, and who so thoughtfully provide amusement for curious passers-by into the bargain.
* There is no "official" collective noun for dinosaurs although there's plenty of discussion about it.
