…on some of the spires of Corvey Abbey. Founded in the 8th century AD, the abbey is situated on the left side of the river Weser (while Holzminden is on the right side). A walk around the walls takes almost an hour, demonstrating the size of the premises. Since the secularism in 1806 Corvey has princely owners, but is in large parts open to the public. As the countries on either side of the river belonged to different religions (catholic on the west, and protestant on the east side, the river was a major boundary, segregating the population over centuries. In the course of the last 50 odd years this segregation has become overcome though.
