Like the Spanish City to me
Our son-in-law knew that ‘Spanish City’ came into a Dire Straits track but he had no idea what it referred to. Today he found out.
Joanne and Greg have been with friends in the North East this weekend. There are six of them staying in Jesmond, Newcastle where two of their group have just moved to. They suggested that we go over there and spend a bit of time with the two of them on the Sunday - so we did that today. We picked them up this morning and took them to Whitley Bay, where they had never been.
We had a lovely brunch at Valerie’s Tearoom in Spanish City and then we toured the place, looking at the old photos that tell the story. Gordon told them all about being taken there by his relations when, as a small boy, he was staying with them in Acomb. He remembers the funfair and the photos brought it all back. Of course we have stayed here at the Premier Inn many times, but I think it’s the first time we have looked at all the photos and the information. They were impressed with the building and its history.
We had a quick walk by the sea - it was a bit chilly! Then we took them back via the coast. It was nice to see them - we don’t get together very often.
