Blackwood Miners' Institute

“No one can lie, no one can hide anything, when he looks directly into someone's eyes.”
Paulo Coelho
Bit of an odds and sods day today, beginning at Pontypool for family history group, then Blackwood to have a look at the ‘new’ Chartist mural which was originally the main focus of the day. While I was there I thought a shot of the old Miners Institute with the sculpture dedicated to the volunteers who served in the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War. I wondered how many youngsters would even know what I was talking about if I mentioned it, so that’s why it’s here today. On to Tredegar to hear the very absorbing talk about Ironworking in the Upper Sirhowy valley, followed by my coffee and cake! Return journey via Brynmawr to photograph the mural of Minnie Pallister near the Market Square, then after a brief pit stop at home back up to Ebbw Vale for the evening family history group meeting. Back home in time to watch another episode of ‘Endeavour’ and an ‘early’ night in time for my day out with another policeman tomorrow…
