St John's Garden
You are going to see a lot of pictures of St. John's Garden now we are volunteers :-) The blossom looks lovely in the afternoon sunshine.
The main risk facing the Garden at the moment is that Islington Council are planning to no longer lock parks at night (to save money of course). Our little Garden is particularly vulnerable to anti-social behaviour as Clerkenwell is a hub for night life with a well-known night club nearby. The Police have trouble keeping the peace and trying to reduce drug dealing on the streets already. The Garden is in a quiet location with poor lighting and would be an easy target. After the volunteers have put in so much effort to make the space attractive for families, children and wildlife, it could be soul-destroying to see it trashed. My next job is to drop lots of leaflets asking locals to respond to the Council's consultation with strong objections.
