Entrance Door Details

The main entrance door to St Thomas The Martyr Parish Church in Upholland, near Wigan, has some fascinating stone carvings around the arch.
This is a skeletal figure, one of many, and others include various faces in rows around the arch.
The Church itself dates to around 1300AD, being the Church of the Benedictine Priory on site.
The Tower with the archway figures dates to around 1500AD.
