The secret agent Marnie escaped through the torn curtain and the rear window, ducked under the rope and scaled the 39 steps heading N by NW, avoiding the farmers wife Rebecca. Before the lady vanishes downhill passed No. 17 and Mr & Mrs Smith then off through the pleasure garden and avoiding the birds to reach the shore where she escapes on the lifeboat leaving the pursuers spellbound.
