Mono Monday - “Jam & Jerusalem”
Due to various people being away this week, there were only six of us at the monthly St Luke’s Monday lunch. We still had a jolly time, and The Exchange gave us some lovely dishes to choose from. I had Hunter’s Chicken with fresh veg and new potatoes, which was very tasty, followed by churros with a chocolate dip - the smell of the churros took me straight back to evenings in Spain as a child walking along the town paseo with street vendors selling this traditional Spanish treat.
I spent the afternoon unboxing and rigging all my audio gear from the flat - turntable, loudspeakers and amplifier/cassette deck/radio. I also plugged my VHS/DVD/CD player through the amplifier so I’ve got everything bar the TV on decent speakers. What a treat to play some Led Zeppelin full blast once it was all set up. Having lived in flats all my adult life I am now in a fully detached bungalow, and it’s wonderful not having to worry any more about annoying the neighbours with loud music.
Thank you to LesleyAlsford for hosting this week’s Mono Monday challenge, with the theme of ‘a book or film title’. I‘ve deviated slightly from the theme, as “Jam & Jerusalem” is actually a British sitcom series about the WI (Women’s Institute) - also known as “Clatterford” in the United States. Although I’m not a member of the WI, I do go to church and we sometimes sing the hymn “Jerusalem”, which is the WI’s anthem. I popped along to the world-famous Wilkin & Sons jam factory on the edge of Tiptree today to buy a jar of strawberry with champagne conserve. This is for our afternoon tea on Sunday at my niece’s Mersea Island lodge. One thing we can always find in Tiptree is every conceivable variety of Wilkin & Sons jams, pickles, mayonnaise and other products, straight from their factory shop. Raspberry seedless is my favourite - what’s yours?
