As Days Go By

Jack is almost at the end of his first full season as a professional, actually-earning-money, dancer - how did that happen?! He only has one more domestic performance to go, after today’s, and a ten day tour, and then he’s got a couple of months off to recover.

Today was his last stepsister performance for the season so my parents and I came to visit. Arrived in the early hours, on a very cheap flight from Newcastle, and therefore we were all a little tired for most of today. Wandered around the centre for a while, ate the best margarita pizza I’ve ever had, and then headed to the theatre. With it being the last ‘home’ performance there were a lot of friends and family in the audience and we noticed the AD running around the auditorium, shaking hands and greeting what seemed like half the people there.

We did the stage door thing for the first ever time afterwards which was a bit surreal, I’m normally waiting with Anna at stage door for her idols! Took Jack out for tea, with more lovely food, before an early night. It’s really amazing to see how much his Italian has come on in six months. He’s not fluent by any means but from his zero starting point the confidence with which he now navigates everyday life speaking to people is fabulous to see.

We came across this lady having a photoshoot in front of the Duomo. Since it says UNESCO on her painted dress I assume it was in some way related to promoting its status as a possible world heritage site? The dress was certainly very striking on a rainy day.
