Malmesbury Abbey
After dropping the grandchildren at school and the childminder’s l went with my son to Malmesbury. It’s a lovely historic town set on a hill. We explored the streets and had a short walk along the river meadows with a good view of the town above, see extra.
After an early lunch in a cafe we visited the Abbey which was consecrated in 1180. After the dissolution of the monastery in 1539 by Henry VIII it was eventually given to the local people as a parish church. It continues to serve as a church today.
There are many antiquities to see including the porch with 12 apostles 6 on each side, see extra.
The sun came out soon after lunch turning into a warm afternoon. I dropped my son at the station and he returned back home.
An enjoyable day.
