Swedes are terrible at their own language.

Take today, for example. Nine months before Christmas. ”Jungfru Marie bebådelsedag” (Day of Virgin Mary’s Premonition). Makes sense.

Colloquially shortened to ”Vårfrudagen” (Day of Our Lady). Okay… still makes sense.

Colloquially mispronounced as ”Våffeldagen” (Day of… Waffles).

Then again, I do like waffles more than I like religion…
