Lincluden Abbey is a sad place. Not just because it is a ruin, but because it is largely unknown, unforgotten and unloved. The effigy of Princess Margaret in her tomb had engine oil poured on it in 1999 and has been replaced by a fibreglass effigy. Graffitti, litter and dog dirt are all around. It is a place which deserves more attention - with a peaceful location in a loop of the Cluden Water just before it joins the Nith. A community orchard has been planted here and I saw a kingfisher here today :-)
I was on my way home from collecting the car from its MOT; it needed a windscreen washer pump (which I knew about) and a new spring (which I didn't). I was even more careful than usual about potholes when driving it back.
