Fly Past

Mrs CBL and I were overtaken by a flock of Purple Sandpipers on our beach walk today.  They were in a hurry to get to wherever they were going.  They are returning to our shores from Scandinavian countries for the breeding season.

There is not a hint of purple on their feathers which are, in fact, a drab grey-brown colour and are considered to be inconspicuous birds and are easily overlooked on the dark seaweed covered rocks, however, in flight their white wingbars fairly catch the eye.
