Bonfire Intrusion

Balwearie Castle or Balwearie Tower

I chose the wrong time to visit this location because a bonfire was causing smoke to billow across the building.  Fortunately I managed to capture a shot where most of the smoke was passing behind it.

This tower dates from the 15th Century.
An earlier building here is associated with one Michael Scot(t).  Actually there were two men with the same name in Scotland at the same time at the end of the 12th Century and it is not clear to which one many of the stories should be attributed.

Locally it is said that our Michael Scot(t) was the 'Wizard'.  A local woodland walk is called the 'Wizard Walk' and beside it is a carving of a wizard.  Information boards summarise the story.  The Harry Potter Stories may have had some influence on the greater prominence they have today.

The carving was previously blipped by me here:

I thought I had blipped this tower before but can't find it from searching appropriate tags.
