Theatrical colour of the cattleya

Our second pot of cattleya orchids has produced two big, lush, velvety purple-red blooms. This is the colour range I associate with theatres, especially the velvet curtains that were once a feature of cinemas and stage productions. I haven't been to many operas but I believe the gowns of divas have sometimes been this colour.
