Roll With It

By Falmike

It’s Not What It Looks Like

Definitely not what it looks like.
It’s part of the RHS Soil Testing lesson.
a) Earth sample, sieved and mixed with water
b) Rolled into a ball
c) Rolled into a ‘sausage’
d) Shaped into a ‘U’
e) Shaped into a circle
Each stage tells you something about the soil contents/construction, it reminded me of nursery age kids playing with ‘mud pies’
Enjoyable though.

This week I have been again focussing on life after the therapy garden, a friend who reads my ‘Blips’ said that in the entry for March 18th I had come across as a “maudlin”, that was certainly not my intention.

I have enjoyed the learning experience immensely and the need to learn, to make every day a school day, is still with me. I learnt or read somewhere that as we age we lose brain connections. Learning a new skill is one of the most effective ways of boosting neuroplasticity, (the fancy medical term used to describe your brain's ability to learn and adapt) and gardening with its Latin terminology has certainly done that for me over the last twelve months.
So four weeks, maybe a little more before we move on - maybe - or just maybe we might meet at the garden once a month for a coffee and a chat, you never know.
