The history of buildings

I love old buildings and the history of them.

In the photo you can see the Arc on the left and the Theatre Royal on the right.

The Arc dates from the mid-1830s, when a group of local businessmen decided to form a private company, known as the "Winchester Corn Exchange Company", to finance and commission a corn exchange for the town.

The Theatre Royal began in 1850 as The Market Hotel. It was used as a convenient stop-over point for farmers on their way to sell cattle and buy implements and provisions from the Corn Exchange next door.

Just round the corner is a large open space used as a car park and it used to be the Cattle Market and it’s called the Cattle Market car park.

I’d been in town to volunteer at the Winchester Ciry Mill.

In the afternoon I’ve pricked out some seedlings and planted some more seeds.

I had some cranberry sauce left over from Christmas and we made an apple and cranberry crumble. It was delicious.
