Keo.

Hot, hot, hot today... And totally wind-still. We had planned on playing a game of golf at a nearby course, but after a long-lie and another nice breakfast on the balcony, we were melting on our way into town to catch the bus. We decided to pop back to the apartment, get our swimming gear and then go hunt out a good beach! We only walked a little way down the coast, but there are swimming beaches every quarter-mile or so on the coast of Paphos, so we stopped off at one which looked sandy and not so swamped by seaweed. We noticed that there was another watersports company there which was offering cheaper jetskiing than the other places we looked, so after our lunch had gone down, we booked a double and zipped off over the water. We’d picked a good day – no breeze so no chop at all, and it was so much fun.

At one point I saw what I thought was a bird flying very close to the water surface – then realised it was actually a little blue flying fish! I was delighted; I’ve never seen one in real life before! M was driving so we were going quite fast and bouncing all over the place. He drives the ILB for the RNLI quite frequently so he’s really good at reading the water and even when we were going fast I felt quite safe!

When our 30 minutes were up, we decided we’d definitely earned a beer, so we stopped off at the bar by the beach (which was playing some super-cheesy Reggae tunes!) and had a drink before heading back to the beach for another swim. A lot of the beaches we’d visited were sandy with reefy outcrops which could be a bit jaggy on your feet if you weren’t expecting it, but this beach was really sandy and shallow for a very long way out. The water was really clear and even M didn’t mind swimming in it! I think we might re-visit this one tomorrow.

We headed home fairly early and sat on the balcony with a beer and our books; a lot of our holiday has been quite repetitive but it is just wonderful to be able to switch off and not think of anything or even DO very much, just enjoy the peace, quiet and sun. Chicken souvlaki for dinner, and a DVD of Rogue Trader (with my favourite actor, Ewan McGregor - don’t you just want to squish him?) with ice cream to keep cool. We put the air con on in the bedroom half an hour before we go to bed – the cold hits you like a wall and you feel like you can just BREATHE more. Oh it’s good. Am I the only one that struggles to get to sleep without the weight of a duvet, though?
