So 14 days is up. We’ve had a wonderful holiday, and it’s been just the right length. I think we’re both ready to come home to our comfy bed, our power-shower and the rain. Well, maybe not the rain part... But I am looking forward to being able to get out of the shower and not be sweating by the time I’ve got my clothes on!
M lay in bed late; he has a 6am flight to Houston tomorrow where he must immediately meet the big bosses of his Department for a chat and a tour of a new factory. We will get home around midnight tonight, so he won’t get much sleep. When he got up, we decided to walk into town for breakfast, and ate apple pie at a French patisserie, and drank strong coffee. We picked up some presents for our parents, and when we could avoid it no more, headed back to the apartment to pack.
We had time for a seat on the balcony and a bowl of fruit salad for lunch before the taxi arrived, and drove us back through the dusty countryside to Paphos airport. We’d arrived quite early, so played cards in the departure lounge and shopped for sweeties for our colleagues. A typical day of travelling. Lots of sitting! The flight was 5 hours, with only a little turbulence. I came agonisingly close to finishing my Rebus book, but not quite. I’m not sure when I’ll next find time...
We arrived in Edinburgh to heavy rain. The first suitcase on the carousel had burst open and pants, dresses and souvenirs were making a break for freedom – as it made its way round the groups of people clustered at Arrivals, everyone went quiet and looked anxious. We were lucky – our cases had withstood the flight a lot better – but most of the cases were scuffed and dented. Watching the hoardes of people that had flown in their shortest shorts and their most summery tops battling with their suitcases in the rain was mildly hilarious (of course M and I had been a little more sensible)! We found Harakiri no bother and made good time home, only to find when we opened M’s case that his shower gel had burst open! Luckily we’d put all the bathroom stuff in a plastic bag, but I still had to wash all the containers of moisturiser, toothpaste, aftersun and mouthwash in the sink and leave them out to dry!
This photo was taken on auto mode from my Leica as we sped over the Forth Road Bridge. That little camera is amazing.
