Eclipse
A partial solar eclipse today! Some cloud coverage, but overall visibility was good, so I decided to set up my camera. No need to travel for this one: I could just shoot this from my garden!
I used filters to capture these. I think this main image was shot using a 6 stops ND filter. The image where the moon is almost out of the way again was shot with a 10 stops filter. As you can see, there is a prominent sunspot visible as well in these images. The image where the eclipse was at its maximum (24% at my location) doesn't appear to be completely sharp, but I wanted to include it anyway.
I used my Tamron 150-600mm lens for this, but there is no adapter ring available for my filter set for this lens. I had to resort to just hold the filter in front of the lens myself and that seems to have worked just fine. Still, at 600mm and with the amount of wind, even an exposure of 1/8000 of a second did not guarantee a sharp image. I'm glad I took lots of photos and came away with quite a few sharp ones.
I wasn't sure which image to use as the main one. In the end, I decided to go for the image where there is a cloud in front of the sun because I think that makes for a bit more interesting photo.
