Partial solar eclipse and early bluebells
I hadn't realised there was a partial solar eclipse today until it was already underway. Nipped out into the back garden - cloudy - not sure if will see it but where are the eclipse viewers ie the eclipse specs?
Tried to think where I might have put them and nothing much sprang to mind but then I tried what I thought may be the right place and yes!
Popped a pair on and went to look - excellent view - called Terry out to have a peep. See extra photo.
Also see extra of the first bluebells I've seen flowering this year.
I don't use my ordinary camera any more and I usually just point and shoot on the phone camera but I knew that wouldn't be good enough so I tried looking at different settings on the phone and nothing worked to get a decent photo - they were all coming out as if there was no eclipse.
Brainwave - hold eclipse specs lens over camera lens and try that.
I know it's not a great photo but it's good enough for me!
We were fortunate to see the total solar eclipse on 11th August 1999 down in Devon. It was a wonderful experience even though it was very cloudy. So many people out to experience it as well.
My two sons were in Cornwall watching it and my daughter and my mum were at home (NW England) so they didn't experience totality but it was still exciting for them.
We refer to it as a once in a lifetime experience and I said to my sons that some people travel the world to eclipse watch. My younger son said that wouldn't be any good because it would no longer be a once in a lifetime experience!
