Feeding Time
..and a lot of bickering at the feeders...
I finally transferred the big bag of sunflower seed into its container in the shed ( extra) and was able to, at last, fill the bride feeders. The first birds to realize that the buffet was open again were grackles...a whole flock of them, and they descended in gangs, bullying the other birds and hogging the feeders.
This pair of cardinals did manage later in the day to find a couple of empty perches just in time for me to snap a blip for the day.
I have read that grackles do not like safflower seed, so perhaps I should go back to including that in the feeders. One would think that the neighbourhood hawks and coyotes for whom they are prey, would be a deterrent, but perhaps they have yet to encounter them?
It is so discouraging to see them take over....
