When the sun shines ...
Actually, the sun shone for about ten minutes all told today, and it became more a case of "when the wind blows..." as sudden gusts of wind started to howl in the chimneys in the afternoon and by evening were battering our outdoor door mat against the back door as if it was trying to break in. But in that ten minutes of brightness in our living room I happened to look up ...Well, we all know about Spring Cleaning, and today was one of these days when you see why it's A Thing. Our ceilings are 12' high and not usually spotlit, but what with low late afternoon sudden sun and my taking a notion to cast my eyes heavenwards (I jest) ... Well, there were cobwebs. Not intricate woven circular ones - great streamers of strands from corner to light fixture, or to picture frame, or just ... dangling. How on earth these critters do it I don't know.
Shame drove me there and then to find the ceiling brush - it's seen better days - and deal with them. Together, we just made it - tip-toes and outstretched arm brandishing brush. And the above is the result.
The reason you're getting this appalling confession and its even more appalling illustration is that the only other photo I took today was out of the bedroom window to catch the waves at high tide battering the very spot where the repairs are in progress from the last storm. I reckon you've seen enough of them recently.
I had intended going out today - Di and I had arranges a walk, which became a coffee in a cafe when the weather deteriorated, which was then cancelled because I was feeling ropey again. This last bug seems to be rather unwilling to depart - or too ready to return - which is inconvenient in the circumstances. Fingers crossed. I packed a bag and did a lot of sitting around doom-scrolling like a disgruntled adolescent.
The best bit came after dinner, when I was doing my evening Duolingo exercises (do it early and late and you get extra points next session). Suddenly the screen signalled an incoming Facebook call, which turned out to be an old friend from Alabama who's just been introduced to social media. We had about 20 minutes of FaceTime, which was joyous and just time enough for a basic catch-up. Much has happened since their last visit to Dunoon, and even more since we stayed with them in Birmingham and on the Gulf coast in the second year of my retirement, let alone since the historic occasion when Ruth was the first woman to celebrate the Eucharist in Holy Trinity Dunoon. I hope we manage to co-incide so well again soon.
We saw nothing of the partial eclipse, but I have remembered to put the clocks forward.
Have you?
