Jesus College Chapel.

Founded at the beginning of the 12th century, the Chapel is the oldest surviving building in Cambridge that is still in use. Over the centuries restoration has taken place, bringing to light many original features previously covered up. The later restorations and preservations were carried out under the direction of the architect Augustus Pugin. ( His protege James Joseph McCarthy who carried out Pugin's unfinished work elsewhere when he died was an ancestor of mine on my grandmother's side and many of our family have worked on the drawing board, including me) Decorations for the restored and newly panelled ceiling were by William Morris and painted under his direction in 1867.
