Living my dream

Pink Fir Apple...

...potatoes.

As usual I planted 12 pink fir apple potatoes in September. And as usual I now remember why I always jot down in my garden diary that I should only plant eight.

They crop heavily (2kgs to 4kgs per root) and I don't eat potatoes every day. So I usually have far too many and share many of them with friends.

I know for sure that come September I will plant a dozen again, because they might be the only crop that succeeds and I'll need every tuber.

These ones will be thickly sliced and boiled, then eaten with butter: simple is the most delicious.

The mornings are so dark now that for the first time I can ever remember I am looking forward to the clocks going back next weekend, giving us daylight an hour earlier. It won't last of course, but I will enjoy a few weeks' respite.

And while at the same time I will regret the earlier darkness each evening, it is the mornings when daylight is most precious, when I want to start the gardening for the day.

Thank you for the stars, hearts and comments yesterday. Bean slept very soundly last night after all the excitement.
