What I've Done

Segla

Our prime destination today was the village of Fjordgard, hopefully to visit the mountain Segla. We set off early, stopping on the way for:
Extra 1: Mountain view with "trees" in front - these seem to be the biggest deciduous trees in Senja. On arriving in Fjordgard, we parked the car and followed some trails at low level, thinking we might not be able to get any height in the conditions. (Extra 2). Our crampons were giving plenty of grip in the snow, and where others had walked or skied meant we didn't sink too far into the deep snow.

We decided to follow a few groups up Hesten, the mountain adjacent Segla, and the primary viewpoint of it's north and west faces. Main pic and extra 3 (with a figure for scale). The north face is a 300m vertical rock face, whilst the west face (to the left) drops 639m straight into the waters of the Mefjordan.

On the way "home" we stopped again at the Tungeneset range, where we were the only people there, and the still waters of the rock pools reflected the distant range. (Extra 4).

Fabulous weather, the best day ever! Getting that view of Segla was the highlight - now I want to climb it.
