The Duke and his street cone
I was in Glasgow this afternoon and popped in to see the Nikki de Saint Phalle exhibition in the Gallery of Modern Art.
Outside the gallery is this iconic image of the Duke of Wellington with two street cones.
It started as a joke by some Glaswegian prankster, no doubt after a heavy “bevvy” some twenty odd years ago and now it’s become one of the city’s standard tourist attractions.
Brides get their photos taken beside it.
And the Lonely Planet guide in 2011
rated it as one of the most 10 bizarre images in the world.
