Bee fly

I went to belly dancing this morning but gave Pilates a miss.

I did a bit of pottering in the garden - lovely sunshine but a chilly wind.  I saw this bee fly feeding on the aubretia.

It's long proboscis is for feeding, it's harmless but the youngsters are parasitesof bees, wasps and some other insects.
