Yellow spring flowers that are not daffodils

I have patches of these around the garden, very bright and cheerful.
The lady in the background has lived here longer than we have. She is slowly eroding but is still a nice feature in the flower bed.
Went to a U3A meeting this morning. The talk was by an ex London policeman and was about London Squares and their history. He initially thought about researching the subject as he was coming up to retirement as a new hobby. One of his initial findings was there are more than 900 London Squares. It was at this point he decided to just select a few to work on. Sensible choice. He was a very good speaker and it was an interesting subject.
