Bean has had an exciting day.
Whilst on our walk around S&N's property, on the edge of a paddock she stopped stock still with a front paw raised. I stopped too, to see what was occurring. We both stood motionless for at least 30 seconds. Then Bean leapt into the long grass...and a hare shot out in front of her and ran within half a metre of me, across the paddock and down into more long grass along the wee creek. Bean was hot on its heels, but only until it reached the creek. She gave up with a shrug at that point and lolloped back to where she had put it up, for a good sniff about.
We moved on...
Then as we wandered up through the fruit trees to the sheds I spotted this hare, sitting bolt upright in the middle of the drive. Bean missed it completely, thanks to a delicious windfall apple that she was savouring at the time.
I watched it for a few seconds and even managed to get my phone out of my pocket to take this rather distant photo before it spotted me moving, and turned round and bounded slowly into the flaxes on the other side of the drive.
Later on at home Beanio was having a well-deserved snooze on the guest cabin deck when a scruffy and unconcerned pussycat sauntered past immediately in front of her nose. She didn't miss this interloper! As she twitched with surprise, the cat took off and Bean was close behind.
Sadly for her the cat bolted up the drive and under the gate, leaving my frustrated dog staring at its departing tail.
I'm glad she's on heart medication: it's had a work-out today!
Around all this excitement I have had a lovely day. I cooked a blood peach crumble first thing, quickly followed by a tomato and lentil lasagne. That's my meals sorted for a few days.
Then it was cheese time. Camemberts today. They're now draining for 36 hours in their moulds.
Outdoors was much cooler than yesterday - and yes we did get rain overnight which made me very relieved that I had cut the grass 24 hours ago.
I picked various crops, watered others. And I had a bonfire, which was probably the highlight.
A good day.
