Grumpy Old Man

Another day by the river

The warmest day of the week, I think. My brother and I were meeting my fellow Blipper jennym999 at Teddington Lock to go a little further upstream to travel over the water to Trowlock Island. OK, it was only a few yards on a self-winding ferry - my Blip today - but an island it is! A man going over wound the boat across on the outward trip and after a wander along the path between the houses we sat on a bench and enjoyed the activity on the river. On the way back my brother turned the handle! One more Thames island on my list!

After lunch my brother and sister and I drove down to Weybridge to cross to another island, 'D'Oyley Carte Island' near Shepperton Lock, but in spite of checking before leaving, the bridge was closed until later in the month. We drove on to Sunbury Lock to visit another island which my brother had previously walked on, but there was a locked gate and sign saying 'Strictly Private'. So two failures!

Not to worry - we had a lovely day in good company and we'll visit 'D'Oyley Carte Island' another time. My last day - back home tomorrow.

Quote of the Day: 'Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.' - A. A. Milne.
