The accidental finding

In my dreams

…I’m going to embrace the simple life and work in a very friendly cafe, the sort that may not exist any more , probably because of lattes and gluten free people like me. I saw this advert in a cafe today, but Steve has pointed out that basically it’s a bread-counter sales job, and a bus ride is involved. He’s right.

I was offered a volunteering job today, for an hour a week, but it’s in the town of Dursley, and certainly doesn’t offer any promotion prospects or salary. I went with my friend B to Dursley, and she left me to shop while she had her nails done. Some of the shops were still closed, so I went into the church, because they said they had 3,000 free books to give away. What’s not to like?

The books were laid out on folding tables up the aisles, and I was given a bag when I went in. It wasn’t long before I started rearranging the books, which is a hobby of mine, borne out of years of book sales work. At this point I was offered the ‘job’. Free coffee, too, if I take it up. If it was in Stroud I’d take it up, but not promising to turn up every week. Dursley is another matter.

Went to the charity shops. Found the exact same swimsuit type, pattern and size of swimsuit that I once had, which I gifted to my mother in 2019 to encourage her to take up swimming again, at the local hotel. That plan worked, but I lost out on the swimsuit, so I bought the one I found today, I don’t go swimming often enough to worry that it came from a charity shop and might not be perfect.

Met B again with her new purple nails, and we tried on some clothes in another shop, and I bought some ‘magic trousers’ B got some dresses. When we’d exhausted the delights of Dursley, we hit Nailsworth for lunch and a bit more exploring shops, then B wanted to see the Longfield charity shop next to their warehouse, so we chugged along there and I found a jigsaw, then she dropped me home again. We will do the same again some time, but not until we’ve had another pay day!

I’ve spent a lot of time reading/resting/trying to recover from a very swollen left eyelid. It looks like a boiled sweet. I felt something coming up yesterday and thought it was a stye. I woke at about 4 this morning (did eventually get about an hour’s sleep) and have been using a heated mask, drops and occasional paracetamol, but any relief is purely temporary. I hope this discomfort won’t last .
