Blackthorn, Dance Lane
At last the sunny weather has brought a change to the hedgerow along Dance Lane, though this is the only example of a shrub in flower that I’ve spotted so far. It’s a blackthorn and produces Sloe Berries later in the year, so those of you who flavour your bottles of gin may well be on the lookout for these plants. It’s unusual to only find one in an area. I wonder if this one was planted by KA when she lived here.
I’ve been enjoying walking down Dance Lane because of the bird songs, which have really provided an emotional lift for me. I can’t remember whether I wrote about the ‘danger of noise’ warning I got on my phone - the birds recorded 30 decibels. It was a Thursday when I had come out of the ‘active-exercise’ a bit early because it was meds time.
My first butterfly of the year - a Peacock, was a bonus. Not taken with the best camera for this kind of close-up and not the best time of day (too bright, overhead light) but a record shot for me.
Such a lovely day that I took myself for an afternoon walk around Wortley Hall grounds. I think it was probably the day that I collected by laundered bedding from the Post Office. My special treat. I started using the laundry service when I struggled to hang the duvet cover above my head. I think I could do it again now but having found this solution I’ve really not gone back. It’s lovely to have ironed bedding.
