Wildflowers
The wildflowers are often hidden in the exuberantly tall grasses, but I liked this little vignette with a lichen covered backdrop. We decided that the Spike walk had dried out enough to take him on it this morning, and he made the most of it. He was in the pond before John could stop him and then bolted out of the water and ran in great circles around the meadow...as close to the zoomies as he gets.
Sonoma county turned out in force for the 'Hands Off' protest yesterday. Santa Rosa, the biggest town, had over 5,000 people in Courthouse Square. Other towns had good crowds too, and even the little town of Cotati had one woman who stood by the main road and waved a sign until she had attracted quite an impromptu group. There were retirees, local politicians, a large LBGT contingent, families with children and people of color. It was sometimes loud, but it was orderly and no arrests were made.
I don't know whether it will persuade anybody to change course, but it sure made everybody out on the streets making their feelings known, feel like at least they were doing something, and that they could mingle with like minded people who deplored the fact that the current government is running roughshod over the institutions of our country, bent on destroying it. One man called it an 'administration of grievance'.
People are beginning to get the message that this is a would-be autocrat who is hell bent on gutting the government, not to get rid of 'waste and corruption' but to get rid of everybody. The most cogent (if ungrammatical) remark I heard from him was, 'I couldn't care less' We need to wake up and show that we DO care.
There were huge protests in over 1200 locations in every single state. Even if we can't hit the pavement, we can all be activists in some way...
