The Guardian

This statue, dedicated to mining communities everywhere, commemorates the Six Bells colliery disaster in 1960 and is a tribute to the 45 men killed then.

It is constructed out of 20,000 strips of weathering steel, and has been compared to Anthony Gormley's Angel of the North.

We visited after doing the parkrun in nearby Aberbeeg.
