At Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Week 2 of our school holiday days with Eben and Luca. It was Luca's choice of outing today, and he chose Yorkshire Wildlife Park. I think this was mainly because he really loves the display of life size dinosaurs there, complete with moving heads and tails and sound effects.
The Park has a solid commitment to conservation and participates in various initiatives to rescue animals from poor zoo environments, as well as contributing to breeding programmes for seriously endangered species. Their animal enclosures are designed to reflect each animal's usual environment as closely as possible, with plenty of space.
I got engrossed in watching this Amur tiger checking out the assembled visitors. It's not a great image, more just my reminder of the contradictory aspects of the whole experience: the delight in seeing this magnificent animal up close, and the sadness about its endangered status, as well as its captivity.
In the extras, Eben and Luca enjoying some of the play facilities in the Park, which are extensive.
