Testing times
Another busy, but a successful, day.
We went to visit my Mum in hospital this morning. Fortunately, she was in a better mood, today. I had brought some old family photos (of her grandparents)with me, along with some exam papers I had found, at her house, which she had sat many moons ago. Here is a paper for English School Certificate (forerunner of O level and GCSE) and a paper for Economics Higher School Cert ( (which became A level). I was interested to see that in 1949 she answered question 9 asking the candidate "to discuss critically the reasons which have been put forward for the imposition of tariffs on imported goods"
Hearing today's news from USA, there is nothing new under the sun!
She was very interested to see all these exam papers, and we had her translating French and Latin, too.
The doctors said they wanted to discharge her in the afternoon. It actually happened much sooner than I expected, and she was back in her room in the care home by 3pm. I joined her there, and we enjoyed a light supper together, sitting side by side on the edge of her bed.
Although it was a long day for us all, and I travelled on nine buses during that time, as I went back and forth between home and hospital and care home, it was a relief to get her back where she belongs!
