The Antonine Wall

Further exploration of the Antonine Wall took us back to Kirkintilloch where the Auld Kirk Museum had been closed when we tried to visit on a Monday. We were somewhat dimayed to discover that it was again closed for the setting up of an exhibition! However we were made very welcome and saw all we wanted to see in this small but interesting and well presented collection.

Later we went to Rough Castle, near Bonnybridge and Falkirk, where there are the remains of a fort and a clearly defined stretch of wall. Mr s is standing in the ditch between the remains of the turf wall on the left (south) and the spoil heap from the ditch.
