Skunk Cabbage
The snakes have gone but the skunks are out - and quite smelly too, attracting lots of little flies!
Running late. All this gorgeous weather means gardening, walking and larking about outside. And we had our first swim very quick dip -, lured in by the sunshine. Oh boy, it was cold! But exhilarating.
In the evening we went to a talk in Skibbereen called Women of power: goddesses, guardians and the godly in Iron Age and Early Christian Ireland' . It was interesting if a bit chaotically presented and I'd have liked more of an emphasis on the Irish goddesses as opposed to the Roman lot. But I think her message was that there is evidence of the power of women all over the place if you care to look, and it can often be seen in what is traditionally considered the preserve of males or in artefacts that have been under-researched. She was pro-Celt and also thought archaeologists should allow their imaginations to wander a bit more rather than being entirely evidence based - two things I approve of!
