It's just not cricket....

The first day of the first Surrey home fixture of the new season against Hampshire, and I joined over five and a half thousand other happy cricket fans for a day in the sun.

Sadly, Surrey's performance was anything but sunny, and if it hadn't been for an obdurate 100 not out by opener Dom Sibley they would have been out of the game on the first day, as it is they will still have a lot of work to do tomorrow to try to get back on terms.

So what's the photo about? Well, this lovely lady is Patricia Garrard, who was elected club president last year, and you can read more about her and some of her illustrious predecessors by going here.

As Surrey are celebrating their 180th anniversary this year, it's my intention that as well posting some actions shots, I'll put together some portraits of the other people who make up the Surrey cricketing family, including the ground staff, the stewards, the hospitality staff, and even a few of my fellow members. I'll be starting an album of some kind on Flickr in due course, but for now I'm too tired and possibly a little too sunburnt to sort that out
