Woking Town Gates

These gates were installed in 1992. The artist is Alan Dawson. Although not that obvious, the steel gates incorporate symbols of Woking's past including 19th century brick kilns, the canal and railway, parts of the Borough's coat of arms and H.G.Wells' War of the Worlds written when the author lived in the town. The faces on the extra represent drama and comedy, appropriate given the proximity of the New Victoria Theatre.
