Squash in a hedge!

My mother's neighbours have taken to growing a pumpkin up the front hedge. This is spectacular at the moment!

How on earth does it stay in place 5 feet off the ground with the weight of the squash? I know it has tentacles but ...it just doesn't seem possible.
