While on my runs

My dead hedge

S and I worked in the garden for a good couple of hours. We planted a dozen native plants near the letter box. I scattered some crushed Ponga trunk and spread that around the base of the plants, which will offer a degree of reducing loss of water. It will also protect against unwanted other plants. Overall it should make it easier for the postman to access the letterbox.

I have been slowly building up a visual edge to the as yet somewhat uneven lawn. Because the Nikau fronds breakdown slowly, and they are too stringy to be dealt to by the mulcher, they form a long and strong basis for this Dead Hedge. It runs fairly much along the top of a steep slope down into a hollow filled with fallen Ponga and Hikau fronds plus tradescantia. The lawn side is more challenging to work out.
