I want to break free

Now this is freedom day!
John’s mobility has been reducing over the last 10 years (due to a curved spine).  Since 2015, he’s had 4 operations on his back, each giving him about 2 good years.  Recently he’s had nerve block injections to no avail.  There’s not much else that can be done (except excessive drugs, which he hates, so understandably doesn’t take).
He resisted using anything more than a stick for years.  Last year he tried a walking frame - and it helped a lot - but he has been walking less and less.  He can now only manage about 100 metres before he stops in pain and he was resisting motorised mobility aids.
We have come away with the family for a week in Derbyshire.
One of the granddaughters pointed out there are lots of nice places to walk and he wouldn’t be able to go with us.
To my delight, John announced we’d hire a mobility scooter.
Today we went for a lovely walk along the Mansel Trail (Bakewell, Derbyshire) so for the first time in over 2 years, we went about 5 kilometres together.  He loved it - gave him a feeling of independence - and I’m delighted.  He’s planning more outings.
Freedom!

The other picture is of the family - on a family tree.
