Mining The Craft Of Siblings, Maidstone
We knew we wanted to go into Maidstone today as there was an event on that we wanted to photograph, the Medieval Fayre in Brenchley Gardens. In the promotional material it mentioned there would be re-enactors bringing traditional crafts and skills along with medieval music and dance. As is often the case with these things it was a slightly ramshackle, amateurish spectacle but in that lovely, self-deprecating English way of getting on with things and having a great time anyway! The weather certainly helped and it was so nice to see plenty of families just taking it all in and enjoying the simple pleasure of watching, relaxing and soaking it all up. My two extras were taken at the Fayre.
However, what I truly love about photography and having a camera with me at all times (well as often as allows) are the moments when you come across those split second encounters where everything falls into place. On the way back to our car I passed a well known burger joint when I spotted these two siblings in its shopfront window. The little girl saw me for a brief second or two and her beautiful smile lit up like a firework. I loved the contrast with her much more subdued brother who seemed totally absorbed in another world altogether.
