A Gorgeous End to a Long Day

Today was a good day. Long, like a lot of my days, but good! Went out to Kamloops with Maddie, Ade and Tiff last night, and had my "stagette" again. It's our new thing for going out, apparently.

Anyways, it was a really fun night, and then we all got up relatively early the next morning, stopped for breakfast at Tim Horton's (a mandatory stop for Canadians, permanent or honorary) and then headed home to start work.

I only worked about 4 hours in the office today, but then we had more riders than expected and the barn needed some help, so I threw on my boots and hat (ballcap, because yes, even though I've lived on a ranch my whole life, I do not own a cowboy hat) and went down to the barn.

I was pretty slow actually, only brushed a few horses and saddled just one. But then again, I'm not used to it like the wranglers. I want to work at the barn more though - I'll definitely get more fit and faster at tacking up! Even so, just having the support and the willingness to help from people not on shift is nice enough for the barn crew. It was so hot out, Trish said my face turned into a tomato and she practically had to send me away to go get some water. It was a hot one out there. I love working down at the barn though - it makes me feel so relaxed and happy, and it's good work that makes you feel accomplished.

After helping the guests mount up, I headed back up to the ranch and hung out with my mom and her friend on her birthday, had a drink, and then went back down to the barn to watch our vet stitch up a pretty good cut on one of our horse's flanks. I walked around the back of the barn, visiting with all the horses and checking them out. I could easily spend my whole day down there.

Once Charcoal was all stitched up and eating as fast and happily as she could while the sedative was still in her system, I went back home to grab my mom's birthday present, and happened to see this sunset on my way back up. I was tired, dirty and hot from a solid day, but I felt good, and seeing this made me feel that much better. I've been having a few personal problems lately, and I think having a day like I did and seeing this at the end of it kind of allowed me to put those problems on the shelf for a bit.

I had a great day, and I'm lucky enough to say I love my job, my home and my life. We all have issues, worries, and things we're not happy with in our lives, so I'm trying to accept that and really focus on the parts of my life that do make me happy. Don't be upset that the day is over, be thankful you get to see it end like this!
