Wellington Monument

I started my Sunday in the usual way with some ringing. Nina came along to take in the experience and it was good timing as there were enough of us to ring all 10 bells.

After that it was time to head to McDs for a cuppa and a few rounds of UNO.  It was all square as we shared the games between us for once.

Then we all headed out to lunch and I had a really tasty burrito bowl, whilst Nina tucked in to a Sunday Roast as she has been deprived of those as they are not a big thing in Canada.

After a break to give our stomachs a rest, it was time for me, Nina and Ian to head to Wellington and take on the 232 steps of the monument.

The climb wasn’t as hard as expected but it did make you a bit dizzy. The steps were in much greater shape than our church tower but since the church was built in the 1400s and the monument in the 1800s that is no surprise!

It was just as well that they gave us safety helmets as Ian managed to clonk his head on the lintel at the top of the viewing area - despite them giving us advance warning before we headed up!  It was well worth the climb for the view and for the sense of achievement. It was very chilly at the top too, so we rewarded ourselves with a nice warming cuppa at Costa on the homeward journey
